Italian Parsley originates from the Mediterranean, and was brought to North America in the 17th century by European colonists. Widely used in cooking, it can be found throughout the world, and has become naturalized in many parts of North America. Small yellow-green flowers are usually seen the second year of growth. Parsley is a favorite larval food source for Black Swallowtail and Anise Swallowtail butterflies. Look for small cream-colored eggs, striped caterpillars, and brown or green chrysalises on leaves and stems. Plant Italian Parsley in your garden to attract swallowtail visitors this year!
