Luna Moth Actias luna
Adult Wing Span: 2 15/16 - 4 1/8 inches
Range: Common in the Eastern United States and Canada
Host Plants: Sweet Gum, Birch, Persimmon, Hickory, Walnut, and Sumac Trees
Witness the miracle of metamorphosis! Caterpillars will need a food source when they hatch. You may purchase your host plant from Shady Oak Butterfly Farm or from a local plant nursery. Be certain the plant has not been sprayed with insecticides, including the organic pesticide, BT. Caterpillars usually take from two to four weeks to reach pupation size.
** Moths can eat a great deal during the larval stage. Please be certain you have the correct amount of host plants if you are ordering larvae.**
Luna Moths may only be released outdoors in Florida. In all other states, they must remain in a rearing container for their entire life cycle.
